Using batteries or Rechargeable battery packs, Airsoft Electric Guns fire in Full and Semi automatic modes. While the LPEG's (Low Powered Electric Guns) are fine for backyard or casual play, a higher end Airsoft Electric Gun like a Classic Army or Marui rifle is recommended for competitive shooters.
EBB or Electric Blowback Airsoft Guns use 4 AAA batteries (or on a select few a rechargeable battery) to power the small motor. These guns use the motor to move the slide back and fourth as well. These guns typically do not fire over 125fps and are recommended only for small backyard play.
MINI ELECTRICS are just as you would expect from the name. These Airsoft guns are made on a 1/3rd "toy" scale. They use 4 AA batteries to power them up to 125 fps and are fully automatic. These are neat little guns for some small backyard play. Becuase they are not real scale they will seldomly be mistaken for real firearms.
LPEG's or Lower Priced (and Powered) Airsoft Elctric Guns use a "boys" gearbox, it is a small plastic box that uses inexpensive plastic parts to create the power needed to launch the BB. These guns are very inexpensive and are only recommended for casual shooting and backyard play. Typically these guns fire Less than 150 fps, so there safer for younger players.
MPEG's or Medium Powered Electric Guns use a plastic gear box and a seperate motor to create the power needed. This configuration is the same as in the higher end guns but uses cheaper plastic composite materials to make up the box and internal gears. "Medium Powered" does not accuratly descibe these items as some can reach higher FPS ratings than some of the "High End" Airsoft Electric Guns. These Guns typically shoot in the 280 fps range. With a considerably lower price range they make great guns for those just starting out in Airsoft.
A.E.G.'s or Airsoft Electric Guns use a metal gearbox and gears along with a seperate motor to create the needed power. In this category there are differences that can only be explained to those already familier with the guns. In laymans terms the cheaper Chinese made AEG's are newer to the market and do not have the consistancy in fit and finish there older and more expensive Japaneese counterparts. This line is constantly becomming fainter between the two as the Chinese continue to better there manufacturing. If you plan to use your gun in competitive games we recommend the Classic Army, STAR or Marui lines while the Both Elephant, JG and CYMA Airsoft guns will be more than enough to play elsewhere.
